I Was Wrong About The Pixel 9 Pro XL

I recently made the switch to the Pixel 9 Pro XL for a trip, despite my initial reservations. The phone, being the largest in Google’s Pixel 9 range, is quite a hefty device with a 6.8-inch display and a distinctive rear camera module. As someone who usually prefers smaller phones, I was unsure about this choice. However, for my trip to Hawaii for the Snapdragon Summit, I needed a phone that could handle the demands of long days, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL seemed like the best option available.

One of my main concerns was the size and weight of the phone. At 221g, it felt uncomfortably heavy at first, especially with the official case adding more weight. But surprisingly, I quickly got used to the heft and found it easy to handle. While one-handed usage might be a challenge for some, I had no issues using it in my day-to-day activities.

Battery life was another worry, especially during long days with heavy usage. However, the 5060mAh battery on the Pixel 9 Pro XL exceeded my expectations, easily lasting through the demanding days with plenty of charge left. Charging speeds, although not the fastest, were sufficient to top up the battery quickly with a 65W charger.

The phone’s 6.8-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate was a delight for watching videos and consuming content. The bright and vibrant screen, coupled with punchy stereo speakers, provided an immersive viewing experience. The camera performance was also impressive, capturing clear and detailed photos in various lighting conditions during the Summit.

While the Pixel 9 Pro XL is not without its flaws, such as its size, weight, and slightly high price tag, it proved to be a reliable companion for my trip. I hope to see the phone become more accessible to a wider audience, especially with potential discounts during Black Friday. Overall, the Pixel 9 Pro XL exceeded my expectations and showcased the best of Google’s latest technology in a compact and powerful package.
