Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has recently launched a new operation in Maine targeting undocumented criminal migrants who have been causing harm in local communities. The operation, named “Operation Catch of the Day,” aims to apprehend the “worst of the worst” illegal immigrants who have committed serious offenses.

According to federal authorities, ICE agents made around 50 arrests on the first day of the operation. Deputy Assistant Director Patricia Hyde stated that there are approximately 1,400 targets in Maine, with migrants from countries such as Senegal, Somalia, Honduras, Guatemala, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo facing charges ranging from rape to drug trafficking.

During a segment on Fox News, footage showed ICE agents arresting individuals from Ecuador, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Angola who were involved in crimes such as aggravated assault, drug possession, endangering the welfare of a child, and driving under the influence of alcohol. One Sudanese national, Dominic Ali, was apprehended for multiple offenses including false imprisonment, assault, and obstructing justice.

Portland Mayor Mark Dion expressed concerns about the operation, calling it a “war of terror,” but advised residents not to interfere with ICE’s enforcement efforts to ensure everyone’s safety. Despite opposition from local officials, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin criticized Maine’s sanctuary city policies, stating that they prioritize protecting criminal illegal aliens over law-abiding American citizens.

Governor Janet Mills, who has been a supporter of sanctuary policies, did not comment on the operation. The crackdown on illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds is part of the Trump administration’s efforts to prioritize public safety and prevent dangerous individuals from terrorizing communities.

Overall, ICE’s Operation Catch of the Day in Maine is aimed at removing criminal migrants who pose a threat to society while highlighting the ongoing debate over sanctuary city policies and immigration enforcement. The operation underscores the government’s commitment to protecting American citizens and upholding law and order.
