ICE has announced significant changes in leadership in order to increase arrests of illegal migrants.
The Trump administration is pushing for ICE to make a minimum of 3,000 arrests per day, up from the initial quota of 1,800 per day set in January.
Kenneth Genalo, who headed ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) division, has been replaced as part of the shake-up.
Genalo has retired and will continue to serve as a special government employee to ICE.
Robert Hammer, Acting Executive Associate Director of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), has been reassigned to a critical leadership position.
Career ICE officials Marcos Charles and Derek Gordon will now lead ICE and HSI respectively.
Several other personnel changes were made at ERO, HSI, and other ICE divisions on Thursday.
ICE stated that the realignments will help achieve the mandate of arresting and deporting criminal illegal aliens to make American communities safe.
The agency aims to increase its operational tempo and has achieved its highest number of arrests in history this week.
