- 🎧 Caitlin Callenson witnessed the shooting and reported that officers gave conflicting instructions to Good while she was in her vehicle. Callenson stated that Good was unresponsive when officers removed her from the car. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the officer was hit by the vehicle and acted in self-defense. NPR’s Meg Anderson noted that the officer did not appear to be struck in the video reviewed and was seen walking after firing the shots. Anderson added that while protests in Minneapolis have been mostly peaceful, there is a heightened sense of anger and tension as demonstrators demand ICE’s departure from the city.
U.S. forces intercepted a Russian-flagged oil tanker in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Britain after a two-week pursuit. The tanker, initially bound for Venezuela, altered its course to evade U.S. vessels. This action coincides with the Trump administration’s disclosure of its plans for Venezuela’s oil sector.
- 🎧 Recent developments in U.S. operations in Venezuela have been dramatic, according to NPR’s Greg Myre, prompting questions about the administration’s long-term strategy. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the U.S. has a comprehensive plan to stabilize Venezuela, with a significant focus on oil. Rubio mentioned the U.S. intention to take control of up to 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil. Myre highlighted the administration’s multifaceted approach, which includes assuming control of the country’s oil reserves, selling them on the global market, and encouraging U.S. oil companies to engage in Venezuela.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. unveiled new dietary guidelines for Americans centered on promoting whole foods, proteins, and healthy fats. The guidelines aim to “revolutionize our food culture” and introduce a revised food pyramid, replacing the current MyPlate symbol.
- 🎧 “I’m disappointed with the new food pyramid,” expressed nutrition expert Christopher Gardner, a member of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, in conversation with NPR’s Allison Aubrey. Gardner critiqued the revised food structure, highlighting the emphasis on red meat and saturated fats, which contradicts decades of research. Poor dietary habits and the standard American diet are widely recognized as contributors to chronic illnesses. Aubrey noted that while the updated guidelines alone may not immediately shift eating patterns, they will significantly influence food offerings in schools, military bases, and federal nutrition programs.

Trump’s daily intake of 325 milligrams of aspirin exceeds the recommended 81 milligrams of low-dose aspirin for cardiovascular health. This disclosure was made in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force advises against initiating a daily aspirin regimen for cardiovascular disease prevention in individuals over 60 without preexisting conditions. The task force suggests discontinuing preventive aspirin around age 75 for those already taking it. Trump, aged 79, falls within this age range. Here’s what you should know about aspirin and heart health:
- 💊 The standard prescription of low-dose aspirin is recommended as higher doses offer no added benefits, as per a 2021 study.
- 💊 Certain individuals, such as those with a history of heart surgery or heart attacks, should adhere to the advised aspirin dosage for life.
- 💊 Despite being safer than other blood thinners, even low doses of aspirin carry a risk of gastrointestinal and cerebral bleeding. However, these adverse effects are usually nonfatal.
