A horrific incident occurred in the Bronx when a 70-year-old woman was targeted by a career criminal named Oswaldo Ramos. Ramos, with 19 previous arrests, attempted to sexually assault the elderly woman in broad daylight at Creston Avenue and East 184th Street in Fordham Heights. The disturbing act was captured on surveillance video released by the NYPD, showing the perpetrator scrambling to put his pants back on after the assault.
However, justice was swiftly served by a group of vigilante neighbors who took matters into their own hands. Recognizing Ramos from the footage, they apprehended him at Tiebout Avenue and East 187th Street, where they proceeded to administer a beating so severe that Ramos required medical attention. An anonymous caller tipped off the police about the vigilantes’ actions, leading to Ramos being located in the hospital.
One of the residents involved in the beat-down admitted to The Post that they had assaulted Ramos and expressed no remorse, stating that they would do it again if necessary. Another resident affirmed the incident, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated in their community.
The NYPD eventually arrested Ramos and charged him with attempted rape and burglary. Despite living near the crime scene, Ramos was still recovering at St. Barnabas Hospital and had not been arraigned as of Tuesday afternoon. His prior criminal record includes arrests for robbery and burglary, with a particularly bizarre incident in 2018 where he allegedly robbed a deli while falsely claiming to have shot a police officer.
