Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has come to the defense of Indiana Fever fans amidst allegations of racist remarks being directed at Chicago Sky center Angel Reese. The incident is currently under investigation by the WNBA, following a flagrant foul called on Caitlin Clark during a game between the Fever and the Sky.

Portnoy, who attended the game and placed a bet on Clark to achieve a triple-double, dismissed the accusations as coming from online trolls. He emphasized that he did not hear any racist remarks during the game and believes the allegations are baseless.

In response to the backlash, the WNBA issued a statement condemning racism and discrimination in all forms, stating that they are looking into the matter. However, Portnoy criticized the league for issuing a statement based on trolls and defended the Fever fans, stating that they do not deserve to be portrayed in a negative light.

Both Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese downplayed the foul incident, with Reese referring to it as a routine basketball play that the officials got right. Clark also defended her actions, stating that there was no malicious intent behind the play.

The Fever are scheduled to face the Atlanta Dream next, while the Sky will aim for their first win against the New York Liberty.

In conclusion, Portnoy’s defense of the Fever fans and dismissal of the racist remarks allegations highlights the importance of verifying such claims before drawing conclusions. The WNBA’s investigation will shed more light on the situation, and it is essential to address any instances of racism or discrimination in sports to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all players and fans.
