Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), a member of the “Squad,” has reaffirmed her controversial views regarding Charlie Kirk and his tragic assassination, claiming he has “no legacy to honor.”
“I stand by my remarks and owe no one an apology,” the unapologetic congresswoman declared on Don Lemon’s YouTube program, addressing the outrage that followed her comments made shortly after Kirk was shot while speaking to students in Utah.
“It’s heartbreaking how Charlie Kirk lost his life. I empathize with his widow and children—this pain will linger with them forever,” she stated to the former CNN anchor while discussing the chilling footage of the incident.
“However, there is simply no legacy to celebrate. His life was marked by bigotry, hostility, and white supremacy. As a Black woman and a Muslim in this nation, I will not rewrite history to accommodate the narrative surrounding his actions,” she asserted.
Omar further argued that Kirk’s supporters, whom she described as “crazy people” — including President Trump — can “do as they please,” but she refuses to be “intimidated into silence or to dishonor my identity and principles just to spare their feelings.”
The congresswoman faced severe criticism for downplaying the idea that Kirk’s primary objective was to promote civil discourse in politics.
“Many are suggesting that his only aim was a civil debate,” Omar expressed with disdain in an interview with the progressive outlet Zeteo. “Those assertions are utterly false, and it’s crucial to call out such misleading narratives while we’re still grappling with feelings of anger and sadness.”
“It’s utterly absurd to act as if his statements and actions haven’t been documented for the last decade,” she added, accusing Kirk of disseminating “hateful rhetoric” on various platforms.
Omar subsequently posted another video on X, criticizing Democrats and celebrities for “normalizing Kirk,” labeling Trump’s ally as a “reprehensible human being” and a “stochastic terrorist.”
In response to Omar’s comments, Trump mentioned he had advised Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to “send Omar back” to her homeland.
“I had a chat with the Somali leader, did you know that?” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, referencing the birthplace of the Minnesota lawmaker.
“I suggested he might want to take her back, and he said, ‘I don’t want her.’”
