Following a disappointing performance at the men’s singles competition, the “Quad God” Malinin is set to participate in the non-medal exhibition event on Saturday before the Winter Olympics closing ceremony. Despite finishing in eighth place overall, Malinin’s inclusion in the gala event is considered “almost unheard of,” as typically only medalists and fourth-place finishers perform. However, the 21-year-old figure skating champion is determined to redeem himself at the upcoming world championships in Prague, where he aims to defend his back-to-back titles.
Malinin was recently seen in the crowd with Mexico’s Donovan Carrillo and Team Canada’s Piper Gilles, showing support for his fellow competitors. Meanwhile, Team USA’s Emily Chan and Spencer Howe made their Olympic debut with a score of 70.06, while Ellie Kam and Daniel O’Shea represented America with a score of 71.87.
