England all-rounder Sam Curran has expressed his frustration at being overlooked by the management for the latter part of the home season and the Pakistan tour following Ben Stokes’ injury. Stokes had sustained a hamstring injury while playing for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred 2024.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) opted to go through the three-match series against Sri Lanka without calling up an all-rounder. Instead, they chose to play an extra bowler, placing their trust in Jamie Smith and Chris Woakes to bat at No. 6 and 7, respectively, after a temporary shuffle in the lineup.

Despite playing a couple of matches for champions Surrey in the County Championship season and showcasing a promising performance by taking six wickets at an average of 18.83, Curran has not been part of the current selection plans. His last red-ball appearance for England dates back to 2021.

In a recent interview with TalkSPORT via ESPNcricinfo, Curran expressed his disappointment at not being considered for the Test team, especially after Stokes’ injury. He believed it was his opportunity to make a comeback and contribute to the team.

With vacancies in the red-ball bowling unit following the retirements of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, Curran felt he had the experience and skills to fill the void. However, he was overlooked in favor of rookie Josh Hull, who was chosen for his tall frame and X-factor.

Having played 24 Tests to date, Curran has contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 815 runs at an average of 24.69 and taking 47 wickets at an average of 35.51. Despite his solid performances, he has not been able to break into the current squad.

Curran’s white-ball fortunes have also taken a hit, with a lack of clarity and consistency affecting his returns in T20Is and ODIs. He had a limited impact in England’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign and struggled in the recent home series against Australia.

Despite the setbacks, Curran has shown improvement in his batting credentials, delivering notable performances for Punjab Kings and Surrey. He even notched up his maiden T20 century while playing for Surrey in the T20 Blast.

Looking ahead, Curran remains hopeful of making a comeback and proving his worth in the upcoming series. He was not selected for the ODI series against Australia but has been named in the squad for the white-ball tour of West Indies.

As he continues to strive for a spot in the national team, Curran acknowledges the current selection criteria and remains determined to showcase his skills and make a strong case for his inclusion in future squads. His passion for the game and desire to succeed are evident as he looks forward to potential opportunities in the upcoming Ashes tour and Champions Trophy. Recent studies have shown that there is a strong connection between mental health and physical health. This relationship is often referred to as the mind-body connection, and it emphasizes the impact that mental well-being can have on physical health outcomes.

One of the key ways in which mental health can affect physical health is through the release of stress hormones. When an individual is experiencing high levels of stress, their body releases hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones can have a negative impact on the body, leading to increased blood pressure, heart rate, and inflammation. Over time, this can contribute to the development of chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity.

In addition to the impact of stress hormones, mental health can also influence lifestyle behaviors that can impact physical health. For example, individuals who are struggling with depression or anxiety may be more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, overeating, or avoiding exercise. These behaviors can increase the risk of developing chronic diseases and can also interfere with the body’s ability to heal and recover from illness or injury.

Conversely, improving mental health can have a positive impact on physical health outcomes. Studies have shown that individuals who engage in regular mindfulness practices, therapy, or other mental health interventions may experience improvements in physical health markers such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and immune function. By reducing stress levels and improving overall well-being, individuals can support their body’s ability to heal and function optimally.

Overall, the mind-body connection highlights the importance of prioritizing mental health as part of a holistic approach to overall well-being. By addressing mental health concerns and implementing strategies to improve mental well-being, individuals can support their physical health and reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases. It is essential for healthcare providers to recognize and address the relationship between mental and physical health in order to provide comprehensive care for their patients.
