What inspired me to share this story now?

I felt compelled to write this book because I believe that this period of midlife for Generation X, the generation to which I belong, is significant. We are often overlooked in media and literature, yet the experience of balancing parenting with being overshadowed by the boomer generation is a common one among my peers. Boomers have had a profound cultural impact and continue to hold influence in various aspects of society, making it an intriguing topic to explore in relation to my own experiences with my boomer parents.

The most valuable lesson from my mother

My mother instilled in me the belief that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. Her unwavering faith in my abilities, even when evidence was scarce, was a form of exceptional parenting that shaped my self-confidence and determination.

Navigating privilege in the publishing world

As someone who benefits from being the child of a renowned writer, I am aware of the advantages and expectations that come with my background. I strive to express gratitude for my privilege in a way that is genuine and not off-putting, recognizing that hard work and kindness towards others are essential in earning success and respect. While not everyone may support or like me, I aim to use my platform for positive endeavors.

If my child wrote a memoir about our relationship

If my child approached me with a memoir detailing their experiences with me, I would be intrigued and open to hearing their perspective. I believe that honest and open communication is vital in any relationship, and I would welcome the opportunity to understand my child’s thoughts and feelings through their writing.
