Reflecting on the Release of the Latest Book
How does the release of this book feel compared to your previous projects?
As an author, the release of my latest book has been absolutely wonderful. Having released books both before and during the pandemic, it’s been a joy to finally get back out on the road and engage in meaningful conversations with readers. The experience of connecting with people face-to-face and discussing my work has been truly refreshing. While writing is often a solitary pursuit, I find immense fulfillment in engaging with others about books, whether it’s mutual favorites or my own creations. Bookstore events, especially those focused on romance, are particularly special to me. The atmosphere is always so vibrant and joyful, with a majority of attendees being women who share a deep passion for literature.
Exploring Intriguing Romance Plots
What’s the most exciting romance plot you’ve stumbled across recently, whether in a book, on TV, in a film, or somewhere else?
Several timeless romance plots have captured my imagination over the years. Classics like “Anne of Green Gables” and the “Betsy-Tacy and Tib” series hold a special place in my heart. While the romantic elements in these stories are undeniably enchanting, it’s the emphasis on friendship that truly resonates with me. These narratives serve as a constant source of inspiration and nostalgia, shaping my own storytelling endeavors.
Diving into the World of Fashion
Fashion-wise, I need to know where you think Taylor would get her heartbreak-inducing outfits.
In envisioning Taylor’s wardrobe choices, I imagine her gravitating towards eclectic pieces that exude confidence and flair. Her style may encompass a mix of unique finds and statement pieces that reflect her bold personality. On the other hand, Avery’s fashion sense leans towards classic, sophisticated ensembles sourced from mid-scale mall brands like Banana Republic. Throughout the book, Avery’s evolving wardrobe adds an intriguing dimension to her character development, offering a visual representation of her growth and transformation.
Promoting Diversity in Romance
Is there anything you wish we saw more of within the romance-novel world?
While progress has been made in recent years, there is still a need for greater representation and diversity within the romance genre. I advocate for more stories featuring women of color, especially Black women, as well as narratives centering on individuals of diverse body types. These stories have always existed, yet they have often been overlooked or underrepresented by mainstream publishers. The increasing visibility of marginalized voices in romance literature is a positive trend, but there is still much work to be done in amplifying a wider range of experiences and perspectives.
