An Indiana man allegedly bit a newborn’s face in an attempt to stop the infant from crying, later telling authorities that the baby resembled a “busted up egg” after the incident.
According to FOX59, authorities say 18-year-old Kaden Manuel Lewis Shrum began by “nibbling” on the 9-day-old baby’s cheek, then proceeded to bite repeatedly in a “chomping down” manner.
Shrum, weighing approximately 250 pounds, was subsequently arrested and faces charges of felony battery causing injury to a person under 14.
On July 14, a pediatrician informed child protective services about the baby’s injuries, leading to an investigation by the Bloomington Police Department, as stated in court documents obtained by The Post.
The suspect reportedly admitted to biting the child to quiet it at approximately 4 a.m., starting with “nibbling” and escalating until the baby’s face was severely injured.
Shrum was taken into custody at the hospital, and the current condition of the infant remains unknown.
It is unclear whether Shrum has any relation to the child.
In addition to this case, Shrum is facing separate felony charges for battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness, as well as a misdemeanor battery charge.
Shrum was briefly released on a $5,500 bond for the child abuse charge on July 21 but was later re-arrested due to a bond revocation warrant related to prior cases.
