JioHotstar Emerges as Streaming Powerhouse with Record-breaking ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 Viewership
JioHotstar has solidified its position as the leading streaming platform in India, showcasing remarkable viewership numbers for the recently concluded ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 cricket tournament. The tournament culminated in an intense final match where India emerged victorious over New Zealand, generating astounding metrics that highlight the platform’s dominance in the largest cricket market in the world.
The streaming service reported a staggering total of 5.4 billion views throughout the tournament, with viewers collectively watching for nearly 110 billion minutes. The India-New Zealand final alone attracted an unprecedented 1.24 billion views and reached a peak concurrent viewership of 61.2 million users.
Hindi-speaking regions played a significant role in driving over 38% of the platform’s overall audience, with states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Goa, Punjab, and Haryana leading the way in consumption patterns. JioHotstar also showcased its technical prowess by achieving over 80% penetration in WiFi-enabled connected TV households, with Maharashtra recording the highest viewership in this category.
Kiran Mani, CEO of digital at parent company JioStar, expressed his excitement over the overwhelming response to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, emphasizing the shift towards a billion-screen opportunity where seamless access and immersive engagement are now the norm. He highlighted that the tournament also witnessed the highest single-day subscriptions since its launch, particularly during the India vs Australia match, showcasing the growing acceptance of digital streaming among audiences.
JioHotstar’s comprehensive coverage included 16 different feeds in nine languages, along with additional features like multi-camera feeds, Indian Sign Language feed, and audio descriptive commentary to cater to diverse audiences. The platform also introduced a vertical feed option (MaxView) in both Hindi and English to accommodate mobile viewers consuming content on the move.
Sanjog Gupta, CEO of sports at JioStar, portrayed the tournament’s success as a cultural milestone that transcended sports, stating that the Indian team’s journey in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 was more than just a victory – it was a reflection of cricket’s impact on the collective consciousness and culture of the nation. With a peak concurrency of 61.2 million viewers for the final and sustained levels of around 50 million for the entire tournament, JioHotstar emerged as the digital pulse of this celebratory event.
