Indie Eye Productions Collaborates on Groundbreaking Docudrama “Colón: mitos y orígenes”

Indie Eye Productions, the Emmy-winning company led by the talented Sergio Guerrero Garzafox, has officially joined forces with Spain’s EFD Studios and Mexico’s AG Media to co-produce an ambitious four-part docudrama titled “Colón: mitos y orígenes” (“Columbus: Myths and Origins”).

This innovative project seeks to unravel one of history’s enduring mysteries: the true identity of Christopher Columbus. The docuseries will engage viewers by combining investigative journalism, genomic analysis, and captivating cinematic dramatization, investigating four competing theories around Columbus’ origins and the story behind the titles conferred upon him by the Catholic Monarchs.

Production Timeline and Financial Backing

Currently in development, the production is set to take place in 2026 across diverse locations in Spain, Mexico, and Portugal. Impressively, 55% of the necessary financing has already been secured for this venture.

Meet the Creative Team

The series is being produced by Guerrero Garzafox and Joan Carles Martorell from Indie Eye, alongside Georgina Terán and Deme Naranjo from EFD Studios, with the talented Ricardo Lamas tapped to serve as the writer. Guerrero Garzafox, who has received acclaim including a Los Angeles Area Emmy for “Gracias Maestros,” will also take on the roles of director and showrunner.

Indie Eye’s Vision for Storytelling

Based in both the United States and Mexico, Indie Eye strives to tell bold, internationally relevant stories, blending entertainment with cultural and historical insights that challenge commonly held narratives and spark global conversations, according to Guerrero Garzafox.

Garzafox’s impressive background includes co-writing the immigration satire feature “A Day Without a Mexican,” and serving as showrunner for series like Fox’s “Dos lunas” and NBC’s “El Vato.”

International Collaboration and Resources

The co-production highlights the international nature of the project. EFD Studios, recognized as a leading production services provider with operations in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, and the U.S., is currently constructing what it describes as Europe’s largest LED volume stage in Madrid’s Boadilla del Monte.

AG Media, on the other hand, contributes its expertise in digital content creation and 3D animation, providing essential local production support in Mexico.

Funding Strategies

The producers are actively applying for audiovisual incentives in Spain and Mexico and submitting requests to Creative Europe MEDIA to secure additional financing for the project.
