Tarogramma is an imaginary world created by artist Damien Cifelli, where plants flourish but animals are nonexistent. The landscapes are diverse and mysterious, inhabited by stylish figures who seek to understand their place in this fictive realm. Recently showcased at Spinello Projects in Miami, Cifelli’s paintings delve into the intricacies of life in Tarogramma.

In Tarogramma, symbols hold meanings detached from their conventional interpretations. Icons like flags and emblems represent regions that exist as abstract concepts rather than physical locations. This world is free from societal hierarchies based on ethnicity, culture, or gender, allowing for fluid and chosen identities that promote continuous transformation.

Cifelli’s artworks occasionally pay homage to renowned pieces such as Caspar David Friedrich’s “Wanderer Above a Sea of Fog” through compositions like “Wanderer before the Sea of Ice.” These references capture the essence of the original works while infusing them with Tarogramma’s distinct aesthetic and symbolism.

The artist’s exploration of this imaginative world can be further experienced on his website and Instagram, where his vibrant and enigmatic creations come to life. From figures donning teal skin tones traversing deserts in suits to individuals sorting through crystals and minerals, each painting offers a glimpse into the enigmatic landscapes of Tarogramma.

Whether it’s a group of figures in a red canoe on a green body of water or a solitary individual standing in a body of water surrounded by potted plants, Cifelli’s artworks evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation. The vibrant colors, surreal settings, and thought-provoking imagery invite viewers to immerse themselves in the unique universe of Tarogramma.

As you explore Cifelli’s paintings, you’ll find yourself drawn into a world where the boundaries of reality and imagination blur, where every brushstroke tells a story, and where the possibilities are as endless as the artist’s creativity. Step into Tarogramma and let your imagination run wild in a realm where the only limit is the bounds of your own mind.
