Issues Arise at Idaho Maximum Security Institution
The Idaho Maximum Security Institution has come under scrutiny recently as inmates voiced their concerns about the conditions at the facility. Surrounded by a double perimeter fence reinforced with razor wire, the prison has been accused of various shortcomings by its inhabitants.
One of the primary complaints brought up by the protesting inmates is the delays in accessing medical care. They have also highlighted the extended periods of isolation and the existence of recreational “cages” within the facility. These cages, as described by the inmates, are large metal boxes where individuals are confined, often contaminated with human waste.
While lower-security inmates have access to an outdoor recreation area, it has been reported to be in poor conditions, littered with trash and bodily fluids. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the cleanliness of the prison’s HVAC system, with claims that the vents are filled with unsanitary substances due to years of neglect.
In response to these allegations, the prison administration has stated that the recreation enclosures are regularly cleaned. They have also clarified that inmates are able to request the cleaning of the vents in their cells if necessary.
