Kevin Costner Accused of Sexual Harassment in Lawsuit
Recently, actor Kevin Costner has been embroiled in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a female stunt double, Devyn LaBella. LaBella alleges that she was subjected to an “unscripted rape scene” without any prior notice during the filming of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 in 2023.
LaBella, who was hired as the stunt double for lead actress Ella Hunt, claims that Costner directed a scene involving a second actor, Roger Ivens, where he was instructed to “climb on top of Ms. Hunt, violently raking up her skirt.” This scene was allegedly added without proper notice or consent to LaBella, who was asked to “stand in” for the lead actress.
According to the complaint, the scene was not listed on the call sheet, and LaBella maintains that she never gave consent to participate in such a scene. She describes the incident as a “violent, unscripted, unscheduled rape scene” directed by Costner.
The lawsuit highlights the importance of consent, preparation, and appropriate safeguard measures in the film industry, particularly when it comes to intimate or potentially triggering scenes. LaBella’s allegations raise questions about the boundaries and responsibilities of actors and filmmakers in ensuring a safe and respectful working environment for all cast and crew members.
Costner has not publicly responded to the allegations, and the lawsuit is ongoing. It remains to be seen how this controversy will impact his career and reputation in Hollywood.
