As the saying goes, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

Excelsior and Valley are currently leading the table in the Citizens Shield after securing wins in the sixth round.

Valley managed to hold off Athletic Marist in a nail-biting 32-31 victory, despite a spirited comeback in the second half from Athies.

The game saw Athies trailing 29-7 at halftime before they rallied with impressive tries from Alifereti Matirewa, Savenca Rabaka, Osea Qamasea, Mateo Qoliesse, and Saia Fifita.

Although they scored one more try towards the end, Valley maintained their lead to clinch the win.

In contrast, Valley dominated the first half by scoring 26 consecutive points in the opening 25 minutes, showcasing a strong forward pack and clinical play.

Cameron Rowland, Jacob Pledger, Anthony Docherty, George Mavor, and Isaac Clunie all made significant contributions, while Ben Paton shone in the backline.

In another match, Excelsior had a commanding 59-19 victory over Kurow, pulling away in the second half after a close first half.

Only two games were played over the weekend as Maheno had to forfeit to Old Boys due to injuries depleting their squad.
