Jimmy Kimmel made his television comeback last night, but if your hometown ABC station is under the ownership of Nexstar or Sinclair, you may have missed it altogether, as these media giants have inexplicably chosen to blacklist Jimmy Kimmel Live.
In response, Democrats from the House Oversight Committee, spearheaded by Representatives Robert Garcia (D-CA) and Maxwell Frost (D-FL), are demanding clarity.

The lawmakers sent a letter to Nexstar’s Chair and CEO:
We express grave concern regarding Nexstar and Sinclair’s apparent willingness to align with the current Administration by suppressing diverse voices to placate the President. Your assertion that Mr. Kimmel’s comments were ‘deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country’ stands as a poor representation of his actual remarks and reflects an alarming pattern of embracing Administration-fueled censorship against dissenting narratives. As major players in the U.S. media landscape, protecting free speech and maintaining journalistic integrity should be paramount—not merely appeasing the whims of the current President.
Rep. Garcia elaborated on the situation involving FCC Chair Brendan Carr during a segment on MSNBC, underscoring the gravity of the matter:
Democratic representatives are not off the mark; what we are witnessing is the collusion of two corporate titans who control numerous local TV stations, conspiring with the Trump administration to stifle critics.
At an upcoming congressional hearing, FCC Chair Carr will face scrutiny regarding this apparent infringement of First Amendment rights.
Democrats have identified the weak link in this chain: the two corporations still refusing to air Kimmel’s show. Such stances can’t hold indefinitely without risking breaches of contract with ABC. The challenge lies in holding these co-conspirators accountable for their decisions, as they appear to be sacrificing the foundation of free speech on the altar of political allegiance.
