iPhone 17e Review: The Core Apple Experience and Nothing More

The Apple iPhone 17e is a solid entry-level iPhone that offers great performance, a compact design, and impressive battery life. It comes with the full iOS 26 experience and features MagSafe, making it a welcome addition to the iPhone lineup. While there are some compromises, such as a 60Hz display, slower charging, and no Camera Control button, these are not deal breakers for many users.

Design & Build:
The iPhone 17e features a lovely, compact design that is lightweight and easy to use with one hand. The aluminium frame and glass rear with a soft matte finish give it a premium look and feel. The inclusion of MagSafe allows for easy attachment of accessories and chargers. The phone comes in three colors – Black, White, and Soft Pink.

Screen & Speakers:
The iPhone 17e sports a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina OLED display with a notch at the top. The display offers vibrant colors and good brightness levels, although it only has a 60Hz refresh rate. The dual speakers provide good audio quality for watching videos and listening to music.

Specs & Performance:
Powered by the Apple A19 processor, the iPhone 17e offers excellent performance for daily tasks and gaming. It comes with 8GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB and 512GB. The phone runs on iOS 26 and is expected to receive software updates for around 7 years.

Cameras:
The iPhone 17e features a single 48MP Fusion rear camera that delivers good results in various lighting conditions. The 12MP front camera is adequate for selfies but lacks the new 18MP sensor found in other iPhone models. The phone offers 2x optical zoom and next-generation portraits with Focus and Depth Control.

Battery Life & Charging:
The iPhone 17e offers impressive battery life, lasting up to 26 hours of video playback. It supports 20W wired charging and 15W wireless charging with MagSafe compatibility. While it charges slower than the iPhone 17, it still provides sufficient battery performance for daily use.

Software & Apps:
Running on iOS 26, the iPhone 17e offers a refreshed interface and new features. The software provides a bold new look with translucent elements and fluid animations. The phone supports Apple Intelligence features and is expected to receive software updates for several years.

Price & Availability:
The iPhone 17e is priced starting at ÂŁ599 in the UK and $599 in the US for the 256GB model. It is available in Black, White, and Soft Pink color options and can be purchased from major retailers and networks. The phone offers a compelling option for users looking for a budget-friendly iPhone with core features.

In conclusion, the Apple iPhone 17e is a great choice for those upgrading from older iPhones or switching from Android. It offers a balance of performance, design, and features at an affordable price point. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of higher-end iPhone models, it delivers a solid smartphone experience for everyday use.
