South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been given the opportunity to showcase his skills in the Gujarat Titans (GT) lineup for their IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He has taken the place of Afghanistan’s all-rounder Karim Janat, who was on the receiving end of a brutal assault by Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi in their previous encounter.
Coetzee, who had an impressive outing in the previous edition of the IPL with Mumbai Indians, where he claimed 13 wickets in 10 matches, is set to make his debut this season. With a total of 88 wickets in 65 T20 matches, the 24-year-old was acquired by the Titans for a hefty sum of INR 2.4 crore at the mega auction last year.
During the toss, GT skipper Shubman Gill confirmed the change in the playing XI, stating, “We have one change. Gerald Coetzee comes in for Karim Janat.”
On the other side, SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first against GT. Pat Cummins, the skipper of SunRisers, explained his decision by saying, “We will have a bowl. You never really what you will get. Sometimes it is better to bat at night.”
Unlike GT, SRH stuck with the same lineup from their previous match, a victory over Chennai Super Kings. With three wins in nine games, they currently sit in ninth place in the IPL 2025 points table. A single loss in their remaining five games could potentially end their chances of making it to the playoffs.
In contrast, GT has enjoyed a successful campaign so far with six wins in nine matches. A victory in this game would propel them to the top of the points table. However, they are coming off a defeat against Rajasthan Royals in their last outing.
