Brooks Koepka, a prominent figure in the world of professional golf, has decided to part ways with the LIV Golf league for the upcoming 2026 season. This decision has sparked reactions from various quarters, including Tiger Woods’ former coach, Hank Haney, who did not mince words in expressing his thoughts on Koepka’s departure.

In a post on his X account, Haney emphasized the significance of Koepka’s exit, labeling it as a “big blow” to the future of LIV Golf. Recognizing Koepka’s stature as a “big name” in men’s professional golf, Haney’s comments underscore the impact of the 5-time Major championship winner’s departure on the league.

The official statement from LIV Golf confirmed that Koepka’s departure was mutually agreed upon, leading to his former teammate Talor Gooch taking over the role of captain for Smash GC. Gooch, who joined the league shortly after Koepka in 2022, expressed gratitude for the lessons learned under Koepka’s leadership and voiced his readiness to embrace the new challenge ahead.

Reflecting on his time alongside Koepka, Gooch praised his former captain as a great competitor and mentor, highlighting the respect he holds for Koepka’s decision. As he steps into the captaincy role for the 2026 season, Gooch is eager to build on the competitive standards set by Koepka and lead the team towards continued success.

Koepka’s tenure in LIV Golf saw him achieve a milestone by becoming the first player to win five individual tournaments in the league’s history. In the concluded 2025 season, Koepka secured the 31st position on the individual leaderboard, while Gooch impressed with a 6th place finish, earning 112.70 points.

Overall, the developments surrounding Koepka and Gooch in LIV Golf signify a shift in dynamics within the league, highlighting the evolving nature of professional golf and the opportunities it presents for players to excel and lead in new capacities.
