Secretary of State for Business and Trade Peter Kyle MP during a visit to Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) supplier, Webasto, in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, as the carmaker extended its shutdown in the wake of a cyber attack. JLR, the UK's largest carmaker, has extended its pause in production until October 1, having a knock-on impact to the companies that supply it.

In a troubling development, luxury automobile manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has announced that production at its factories will remain paused for yet another week as the company manages the repercussions of a severe cyber attack.

Earlier this month, Jaguar Land Rover halted production across its U.K. facilities following a significant breach that resulted in the theft of vital company information. As of yet, Jaguar Land Rover has not disclosed the specific nature of the stolen data.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Jaguar Land Rover confirmed that the production delay would extend until Wednesday, October 1. However, the company refrained from committing to a definite date for resumption of operations, stating, “This decision has been made to provide clarity for the upcoming week as we establish a timeline for gradually restarting our operations and continue to conduct our investigation.”

Francis Robertson-Marriott, a spokesperson for the luxury automotive giant, which is a subsidiary of India’s Tata Motors, declined to provide further details when approached by TechCrunch regarding any timelines associated with the resumption of production.

The ongoing closure has now lasted for three weeks, and the extended shutdown is raising alarms among suppliers. Reports indicate that some suppliers are already facing the prospect of bankruptcy due to the disruptions caused by the prolonged cessation of production.
