House Republicans seem to be sending a very clear signal: they are keen on keeping former Special Counsel Jack Smith from sharing his findings regarding Donald Trump’s involvement in the January 6 insurrection and the classified documents scandal.
The House Judiciary Committee, under the leadership of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), has dismissed Smith’s request for a public hearing.

Instead of a public forum, Republicans prefer Smith to testify in a closed session devoid of cameras.
In response to this attempt at secrecy, House Judiciary Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin remarked:
Chairman Jordan has turned down Special Counsel Jack Smith’s offer to address Congress and the nation regarding his investigations into Donald Trump. Instead, he insists on a private session, which only serves to allow Republicans to manipulate, distort, and selectively leak Smith’s comments. What are they so afraid of that they won’t let the American public hear directly from the Special Counsel?
In recent months, there has been a concerted effort among Congressional Republicans and the Trump administration to undermine Special Counsel Smith and his team as they investigate the prolonged endeavor by Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and their allies to cling to power and reverse the 2020 election results—a contest Trump lost by over seven million votes, with a 306-232 Electoral College margin favoring Joe Biden.
Recently, they have falsely accused the Special Counsel of ‘spying’ on certain Senators and ‘tapping’ their phones. The truth is that he issued legitimate subpoenas for three days of their phone records around the January 6 attack—not the content of their conversations, but merely the call logs akin to what one might find on a monthly phone bill.
