It seems the Trump administration is stalling, not with a bang but with a whimper. Rather than delivering the promised shock and awe, what we’ve received instead is an economy spiraling downward, plummeting approval ratings, and a growing wave of public discontent.
With Congressional Republicans largely ignoring the administration’s missteps, it has fallen upon the judiciary to act as the necessary checks and balances. And so far, the courts appear to be holding firm.
During an enlightening segment on Inside with Jen Psaki, Rep. Jamie Raskin highlighted:
There are currently 125 cases filed nationwide, with 50 federal courts having already issued temporary restraining orders or preliminary injunctions against Trump. This is a positive sign that the judicial system is functioning as it should. The relentless attacks on these judges, including Judge Boberg, stem from their insistence on accountability. After all, one cannot simply ignore a federal court order.
As Chief Justice Roberts pointed out this week, when one disagrees with a judicial ruling, the proper course is to appeal, not to attempt to impeach the judge. It is unacceptable for individuals to threaten judges or their families. We must allow these cases to unfold in court.
Trump’s administration has seemingly disregarded caution, with one glaring example being the executive order on birthright citizenship. The 14th Amendment clearly states that all persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens, period.
Watch Raskin’s remarks:
It’s clear as day that judges appointed under various administrations—Obama, Biden, Reagan, and Trump alike—are all ruling against Trump’s actions. In fact, even a Reagan-appointed judge described this as the easiest case he’s ever decided. You don’t need a law degree to recognize when something is fundamentally flawed; one merely needs to understand how to read.
In case after case, the courts have pointed out that Trump’s administration has blatantly overstepped constitutional boundaries. We must uphold the independence of the judiciary, especially as we witness similar trends globally, where autocratic leaders attack judicial systems that dare to check their power.
Judges, lawyers, and legal firms are increasingly under attack in America today. It is crucial for the nation to rally behind the independence of our judiciary and the rule of law.
The silver lining? The courts are indeed functioning. The downside is that this reflects the current state of our nation.
Each legal challenge and ruling plays a pivotal role by slowing down the Trump administration’s agenda.
Time is not a luxury for the nearly 80-year-old president and his waning administration. Should Democrats reclaim control of the House, Trump’s presidency could effectively come to an end, turning him into a lame duck as the national spotlight shifts toward the 2028 election.
The American populace merely needs the courts to fulfill their roles effectively. Democrats are currently winning against Trump in court, marking a significant step toward diminishing billionaire dominance in politics.
