It seems that the mainstream media has a knack for showcasing their own ignorance, particularly when their reactions to political events appear disconnected from the actual happenings in government. A prime example of this disconnect is found in Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s recent move, which many pundits failed to see coming despite her obvious signals indicating a rift with former President Trump.
Greene’s split with Trump was not a sudden revelation; rather, it was a culmination of weeks of subtle hints broadcasted through her media appearances. The only genuine surprise was the timing of her resignation from the Trump camp, which left observers scratching their heads.

In the current Republican landscape, the specter of Liz Cheney looms large, casting a shadow of fear over Congress members who dread the thought of challenging Trump and facing the wrath of primary voters. Traditionally, Republicans who depart from the party line tend to resign first and then voice their criticisms of Trump. Greene, however, flipped the script: she criticized Trump first and then, confronted with the prospect of a primary battle, resigned.
This peculiar logic is not without its merits. Greene seemed to recognize that fighting to retain her seat could lead to two years of minority status, especially given her belief that Democrats will reclaim the House in upcoming elections.
It’s unlikely that Greene will be the last Republican to reach a similar conclusion and make a hasty exit in the coming months.
However, her abrupt departure under pressure from Trump did not sit well with Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX). In response to Greene’s resignation during a CNN appearance on State Of The Union, Crockett expressed her disbelief:
“You know what? Honestly, I was like, you’ve got to be kidding me. You’re on the other side of the president for one week and you can’t take the heat. Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes to not only be on the opposite side of him, but to have people like her who are constantly fanning the flames of hate, and imagine what those threats look like.”
