Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, criticized Republican lawmakers for their hypocrisy in championing law and order while failing to hold President Donald Trump accountable to the same standards. She highlighted the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongly deported to a prison in El Salvador. Despite a court order for his release and return to the United States, Trump has refused to comply.
Instead of facilitating Abrego Garcia’s return, Trump and his supporters have attacked him, accusing him of being a member of the MS-13 gang. However, Abrego Garcia’s wife and attorney have refuted these claims, noting that he has not been convicted of any crimes. Crockett pointed out the contrast between the treatment of Abrego Garcia and the president, emphasizing Trump’s criminal record.
Trump was convicted last year on all 34 charges related to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels. Despite having several federal cases pending, they were dropped after he won the election. Crockett emphasized the irony of the Republican Party claiming to prioritize safety while supporting a leader with a criminal record as extensive as Trump’s.
