A Murder-for-Hire Plot Thwarted in Pennsylvania
In a shocking turn of events, a jealous man from Upper Dublin Township, Penn., allegedly attempted to hire a former friend to help him carry out a heinous crime in upstate New York. Eric Berkowitz, 41, reportedly reached out to Steven Luker, a long-lost acquaintance, offering him $5,000 to assist in the murder of his ex-girlfriend and two other men she had dated after their breakup.
Upon learning of Berkowitz’s sinister plan, Luker wasted no time in alerting the authorities. He arranged to meet with Berkowitz, where the latter allegedly handed over a Mac 11 firearm and a burner phone. The entire exchange was recorded, providing crucial evidence for law enforcement.
Plans to carry out the murders were set in motion, with Berkowitz allegedly suggesting a meeting near one of the targets’ homes. However, law enforcement intervened before any harm could be done. Berkowitz was apprehended as he was preparing to travel to Endicott, New York, where his ex-girlfriend resided.
Upon his arrest, Berkowitz was found in possession of a loaded gun, cocaine, and cash. He now faces a slew of charges, including criminal solicitation for murder, attempted murder, terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering others.
During his court appearance, Berkowitz chose to remain silent as the judge ordered him to be held without bail. His next court date is scheduled for February 20.
The identities of Berkowitz’s ex-girlfriend and the other individuals targeted in the plot have not been disclosed.
