Jemimah Rodrigues put on a masterclass performance as India Women secured a thrilling five-wicket victory over Australia Women in the second semifinal of the Women’s World Cup 2025 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30. Her unbeaten knock of 127 off 134 balls propelled India to chase down a record target of 339, setting up a final showdown with South Africa in the World Cup.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the semifinal, posting a formidable total of 338 in 49.5 overs. Phoebe Litchfield top-scored with a brilliant 119 off 93 deliveries, while Ellyse Perry contributed 77 off 88 balls. Despite losing both openers early in the chase, Jemimah Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89) combined for a crucial 167-run partnership as India created history with their stunning victory.

Having featured in 58 ODIs so far, Jemimah’s exceptional performance against Australia prompted a comparison with Indian men’s cricket team captain Virat Kohli after his first 58 one-day matches.

After 58 ODIs, Jemimah has amassed 1,725 runs at an average of 35.20 and a strike rate of 90.31. Notably, she has scored 454 runs in 11 matches against Australia at an impressive average of 45.40. In comparison, Kohli had scored 2,059 runs at an average of 42.89 and a strike rate of 81.57 after his first 58 ODIs, with 591 runs coming in 20 matches against Sri Lanka.

In terms of centuries, Jemimah has three hundreds and eight fifties in 58 ODIs, with her unbeaten 127 against Australia being the standout knock. On the other hand, Kohli had notched up five hundreds and 14 half-centuries at the same stage of his career, with his best of 118 coming against Australia in 2010.

When it comes to matches won, Jemimah has been part of 34 victories for India, scoring 1,236 runs at an average of 45.77 and a strike rate of 96.03. She has three centuries and seven fifties in wins, showcasing her ability to deliver in crucial moments. Kohli, on the other hand, had been part of 36 wins after 58 ODIs, accumulating 1,531 runs at an average of 52.79.

In chases, Jemimah has scored 763 runs in 26 matches at an average of 38.15, including one century and three fifties. Kohli, known for his prowess in run chases, had amassed 1,407 runs in 35 matches at an average of 50.25.

Overall, Jemimah Rodrigues’ stellar performances have drawn comparisons with Virat Kohli, highlighting her potential as a top player in the world of women’s cricket. Her heroics in the World Cup semifinal against Australia have further solidified her reputation as a key player for the Indian team.
