In a recent memo to staff, Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios, announced that Jen Salke will be leaving her role as Head of Amazon MGM Studios to pursue a new production deal. Instead of replacing her, head of film Courtenay Valenti and head of TV Vernon Sanders will now report directly to Hopkins.
Hopkins praised Salke for her leadership and contributions to the success of Amazon MGM Studios, noting that she played a crucial role in the studio’s evolution into a producer of award-winning films and series. Salke’s decision to move to the production side reflects her desire to get closer to the global creative community and continue cultivating talent.
In her own words, Salke expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with such a talented team and create a new type of global studio. She highlighted the studio’s expansion internationally, development of a film business, and the incredible slate of projects in the pipeline. Salke’s departure marks a new chapter for her as she looks forward to continuing to support creative vision and bring compelling stories to audiences worldwide.
Hopkins commended Salke for her vision, creativity, and industry relationships, which have led to the success of projects like “The Rings of Power,” “Fallout,” and “Reacher.” He also acknowledged the senior team that Salke has hired and developed, expressing confidence in their ability to continue the studio’s success.
Following Salke’s departure, the leadership structure at Amazon MGM Studios will be flattened, with Valenti and Sanders reporting directly to Hopkins. This decision aligns with Amazon’s efforts to streamline reporting lines and accelerate decision-making. Sue Kroll will also continue in her role leading global marketing across both film and TV.
Hopkins expressed pride in the momentum that the studio has built over the past year, with a fantastic slate of original shows and films positioning them for even more success in the future. He thanked Salke for her partnership and wished her the best on her new adventure, noting that she will still be involved with the studio through a first-look deal.
Overall, the transition marks a new chapter for Amazon MGM Studios, with a focus on continued success in producing top-quality content for audiences worldwide.
