Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently commended China’s advancements in generative artificial intelligence models during the opening ceremony of a supply chain expo in Beijing. He specifically highlighted models like DeepSeek, Alibaba, Tencent, MiniMax, and Baidu Ernie bot as world-class innovations that have been developed in China and shared openly, leading to significant AI developments globally.

Huang emphasized the impact of these AI models, stating that more than 1.5 million developers in China rely on Nvidia to bring their innovations to life. One notable example he mentioned was DeepSeek, a Chinese startup that surprised investors with an AI model that outperformed competitors in terms of development and operating costs earlier this year.

Following the recent announcement that Nvidia expects to resume shipments of its H20 chip to China soon, Huang expressed optimism about the company’s future prospects in the country. The halt in chip sales earlier this year was due to U.S. export controls on China, resulting in a significant decrease in Nvidia’s market share in the region.

Despite challenges posed by U.S. restrictions, Huang remains committed to fostering collaboration and innovation in the global AI landscape. He praised Chinese companies for their open-source approach to AI development, noting that this strategy promotes inclusivity and progress in the industry. Huang also highlighted the role of AI in powering popular Chinese consumer tech platforms like Tencent’s WeChat, Alibaba’s Taobao, and ByteDance’s Douyin.

In a recent interview, Huang addressed concerns about the potential misuse of U.S. technology by China’s military and stressed the importance of global access for China to maintain its leadership in AI. As trade tensions between the U.S. and China ease, there are signs of progress in high-tech exports and rare earth trade between the two countries.

Overall, Huang’s remarks underscore the significance of collaboration, innovation, and open-source development in advancing AI technology on a global scale. As Nvidia navigates the evolving landscape of AI and semiconductor exports, the company remains committed to driving progress and fostering international cooperation in the field.
