Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has made a name for himself as one of the least productive legislators in the House. Instead of focusing on passing legislation, Jordan has built his political career on investigating Democrats and defending former President Trump. With Republicans in control of the federal government, Jordan seemed to be running out of targets to go after. However, he has now set his sights on investigating the events of January 6th and Jack Smith.
During a recent interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Jordan hinted at his plans to call Jack Smith to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. Smith, who recently stepped down from his position, oversaw a report on the events of January 6th. Jordan expressed concerns about potential conflicts of interest within Smith’s team, particularly regarding one of his lawyers who had ties to a defendant in the case.
In addition to questioning Smith’s report, Jordan also mentioned the presence of confidential human sources on January 6th, some of whom were allegedly tasked by the FBI. Jordan believes that there are still unanswered questions surrounding the events of that day, and he is determined to get to the bottom of them.
For Democrats, Jordan’s decision to investigate Jack Smith and the events of January 6th could be a blessing in disguise. With Rep. Jamie Raskin as the ranking member on the Judiciary Committee, Democrats are poised to use any hearing on this matter as an opportunity to highlight Trump’s role in the insurrection. If Jordan follows through with his plans to call Smith to testify, it could spell disaster for Trump and further solidify the true narrative of what transpired on January 6th.
Despite Jordan’s efforts to downplay the events of January 6th, his decision to investigate Jack Smith may inadvertently provide Democrats with a platform to shed light on the insurrection and hold those responsible accountable. Only time will tell how this investigation unfolds and what impact it will have on the ongoing efforts to uncover the truth about January 6th.
