In 2015, troubling allegations surfaced against Josh, the eldest of a 19-child family, involving accusations of molesting five girls, which included four of his sisters and a babysitter, during his teenage years. Additionally, it was disclosed that Josh had been unfaithful to his wife, Anna Duggar.
Reflecting on the situation, Jinger described her initial shock: “My brain hadn’t quite caught up to the reality of what had happened in a few short hours.” She recounted how that day, their father had assembled all the siblings to inform them that the most challenging ordeal in their family history, one they believed was resolved and behind them, had become public.
“One of my siblings had made some sinful choices, but it had all been years ago,” she noted. “It had been awful, but we had dealt with it as a family. We’d sought the Lord, took the necessary steps to move toward healing, and offered up our forgiveness. Now that it was out in public, the old wound was open again, raw, painful.”
