On the latest episode of “Last Week Tonight,” host John Oliver took a jab at House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) with a hilarious throwback moment.
Oliver showcased a clip from 2005 where Johnson was fervently defending the right to say “Christmas” on Fox News. Johnson was promoting the now-defunct website, SayChristmas.org, as part of his work with the conservative, evangelical-founded Alliance Defending Freedom, which was the focus of Oliver’s in-depth segment for the week.
Mocking Johnson’s passionate defense of “Christmas,” Oliver sarcastically remarked, “He was really on the frontlines defending the right to say ‘Christmas.’”
However, the irony was too glaring to ignore. After Johnson’s segment, the Fox News hosts teased a segment about penguins battling “holiday” weight gain.
Unable to contain his amusement, Oliver exclaimed, “They’re not fighting ‘holiday’ weight gain, they’re fighting ‘Christmas’ weight gain! Remember SayChristmas.org!”
