John Ramsey Reveals How He Found Forgiveness for JonBenét’s Killer
John Ramsey recently shared his journey towards forgiveness for the man who took the life of his daughter, JonBenét, despite initially feeling a deep desire for revenge.
In a candid interview with Radar, Ramsey opened up about the intense rage he felt in the aftermath of JonBenét’s tragic death. “There was so much rage. And of course, I knew that wasn’t right, but that’s how I felt,” he revealed.
Struggling with the concept of forgiveness, Ramsey reflected on his faith and the teachings of the Bible. “They’re supposed to forgive people through the Bible. I go, I can’t forgive him, that’s ridiculous. And then I got, after thinking about it for a couple of years, I got to the point, well, okay, I’m not the victim here. JonBenét’s the victim,” he shared.
Over time, Ramsey came to understand that forgiveness was not about excusing the perpetrator’s actions but about freeing himself from the burden of anger and the desire for revenge. “Forgiveness is really a gift to give yourself to release that anger and desire for revenge,” he explained.
He emphasized that forgiveness did not mean abandoning the pursuit of justice for JonBenét. “It doesn’t mean you don’t want absolute justice. But if you forgive, it’s a gift to give yourself,” Ramsey added.
By sharing his personal journey towards forgiveness, John Ramsey offers a powerful reminder of the healing power of letting go of anger and finding peace in the face of unimaginable loss.
