Josh Brolin Opens Up About His Sobriety Journey
Josh Brolin, the Oscar-nominated star, recently shared about his struggles with alcohol in his new book. In the book, he candidly talks about how he was introduced to drugs at a very young age, starting with marijuana at nine and acid at 13. He confesses, “I was born to drink. I was birthed to drink. My mother drank exactly like I did, and I was raised to be a man and drink like the male equivalent of my mother.”
Despite having periods of sobriety in the past, Brolin admits that there was a time when his drinking spiraled out of control and started affecting his family. He tried to shield his two eldest children from his drinking, but there was one incident where his alcohol consumption crossed a line and impacted them. He shared, “It was about taking care of animals and not being there to take care of an animal for a moment,” revealing that the pets were close to dying because of his negligence.
This wake-up call made Brolin realize the devastating consequences of his addiction. He acknowledged the harm he was causing to those around him and decided to seek help. Brolin’s journey to sobriety has been a challenging one, but he is committed to making positive changes in his life for the sake of his loved ones.
