Erika Kirk Defends Controversial Hug with Vance: “Anyone Critical Probably Needs a Hug Themselves”
Erika Kirk, the woman at the center of a recent controversy surrounding her hug with Vance during a live event, finally addressed the situation during a discussion with conservative SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly. The event took place in Glendale, Arizona, on November 25.
During the discussion, Erika defended her actions, stating that anyone critical of the embrace “probably needs a hug themselves.” She went on to provide a detailed account of the hug, explaining, “They just played the emotional video. I’m walking over, [JD] is walking over. I’m starting to cry.”
She continued, “He says, ‘[Charlie] is so proud of you.’ And I say, ‘God bless you,’ and I touch the back of his head. Anyone whom I have hugged, that I have touched the back of your head when I hug you, I always say, ‘God bless you.'” Erika emphasized that if anyone wanted to take her actions out of context, they were free to do so.
Megyn Kelly joined in on the discussion, jokingly saying, “They were acting like you touched the back of his a–,” to which Erika responded with a sigh, “I feel like I wouldn’t get as much hate if I did that.”
The mother of two stood firm in her defense of the hug, maintaining that her intention was purely one of comfort and support. Despite the criticism she has faced, Erika remains unapologetic for her actions and continues to stand by her decision to embrace Vance during the emotional moment.
As the discussion drew to a close, Erika expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to address the controversy and shed light on the true nature of the hug. She remains hopeful that those who have questioned her actions will come to understand the sincerity behind her gesture.
