Juan Vidal’s Latest Collection: Embracing Uncertainty and Beauty

Juan Vidal’s latest collection, titled “Me quiere, no me quiere” (“They Love Me, They Love Me Not”), is a celebration of vulnerability and beauty inspired by the act of plucking daisy petals. The designer draws parallels between this innocent game and the fear of decision-making, describing it as a metaphor for allowing fate to determine what the heart cannot bear to face. Vidal explains that the collection is a reflection of the desire to linger in uncertainty rather than rush towards certainty, viewing the in-between as a fertile ground for creativity.

Embracing uncertainty as a catalyst for creativity, Vidal explores the theme of fragility without fear, transforming it into a source of strength. The collection is deeply emotional, with contradiction and doubt becoming the language through which beauty emerges. Vidal’s designs convey a clash of contrasts, incorporating elements such as washed and satin silks, oversized trench coats, floral woodcuts sourced from an antique print in Kyoto, and satin suits embellished with taffeta bows reminiscent of traditional Japanese obi.

During the Barcelona 080 Fashion Week, Vidal showcased 32 looks that juxtaposed opposing elements in a harmonious manner. The collection seamlessly blends straight and curved lines, rigid and fluid textures, matte and shiny finishes, as well as masculine and feminine silhouettes. Vidal reveals that the creative process for this collection was guided by impulse, allowing randomness to play a pivotal role in shaping the final pieces.
