Judge Delays Trial for Trump Assassin Suspect Ryan Routh
The trial for Ryan Routh, the suspect in the attempted assassination of President-elect Donald Trump, has been delayed by Judge Aileen Cannon to September 8, 2025.
According to Reuters, Routh’s attorneys requested a postponement until December 2025 due to the extensive amount of evidence in the case, but Judge Cannon deemed the request excessive and set the trial to commence in September.
Back in September, federal prosecutors charged Ryan Routh with the attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate after he was caught pushing the muzzle of a rifle through the fence line at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course.
Routh had also been charged with federal gun crimes including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and receipt of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Prior to his arrest, Routh had been observed traveling near Trump’s properties multiple times and had set up a sniper’s nest outside the perimeter of the golf course.
Authorities discovered a Go-Pro, rifle, backpacks, and food near the area where Routh had fled, indicating a planned attack. One of the backpacks even contained ceramic tiles that could have been used as body armor.
Despite the evidence against him, Ryan Routh has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges related to his attempted assassination of President Trump.
