Trial Verdict in the Coomer-Lindell Defamation Case

In a case that has captured public attention, recently reported on the trial pitting Eric Coomer against Mike Lindell, centering around allegations of defamation. Lindell is accused of amplifying claims that Coomer was the infamous “Eric from Dominion,” purportedly making a statement during a September 2020 phone call stating, “Trump won’t win. I made f***ing sure of it.”

During the proceedings, Joe Oltmann, who asserts he was part of the call, testified that he had taken notes during the conversation. However, Coomer’s legal team contended that the call never took place, igniting a dramatic clash over the truth.

Cross-examination brought an affidavit from Tay Andersen, relating to a separate case filed by Coomer. This document not only lent credence to the existence of the call but also corroborated Oltmann’s notes on various topics discussed, including protests related to Breonna Taylor and Antifa’s intentions regarding a figure named Joey Camp. Interestingly, Andersen’s affidavit specifically stated there was no “Eric from Dominion” on the call, adding another layer of complexity to the narrative.

The Jury’s Decision

After a thorough three-hour deliberation on Friday and continued discussions into the weekend, the jury rendered a verdict in the Colorado federal court. They found Mike Lindell and Frankspeech liable for defamation, concluding that Lindell participated in a civil conspiracy to disseminate harmful claims against Coomer. The jury ordered Lindell to pay Coomer $2.3 million in damages—a substantial sum, yet notably less than the $62.7 million initially sought by Coomer’s legal team.
