Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was released from a Texas jail on Saturday after being arrested on a domestic assault charge. The incident occurred on Friday and Worthy was initially charged with assault by impeding the breath or circulation of a family or household member, a third-degree felony. However, his charges were dismissed on the same day of his release.
According to the Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick, the case was declined pending further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Worthy’s attorneys claimed that the accuser had made extortive efforts against him and physically assaulted him.
The Chiefs issued a statement saying they were aware of the situation and gathering information. Worthy was recruited by the Chiefs last year and became the team’s leading wide receiver in the playoffs.
After his release, Worthy posted on social media with prayer hands emojis. If you need help with domestic violence, you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
