Karmelo Anthony, the high school student accused of killing Austin Metcalf at a track meet earlier this month, has been forced to evacuate his Texas home due to repeated instances of harassment, according to his representatives.
Next Generation Action Network, the organization assisting Anthony in his murder case, stated on Monday that the 17-year-old and his family have faced death threats, continued harassment, and physical intimidation, leading them to relocate to an undisclosed location for safety.
NGAN officials shared videos and photos depicting the disturbances the Anthony family has endured following the teen’s arrest. Some videos allegedly show pizza delivery drivers arriving at their door with unordered deliveries, while another video shows a man taking photos of their home.
Additionally, NGAN officials revealed that a Metcalf obituary was recently mailed to the Anthonys’ residence, adding to the distress and fear they have been experiencing.
NGAN president, Dominique Alexander, expressed his dismay over the hate and bigotry directed towards the Anthony family, emphasizing that no family should have to endure such harassment for standing up for their constitutional rights.
“We will not be silent, and we will not back down,” Alexander stated. “We are committed to protecting this family and ensuring that justice is pursued without intimidation or fear.”
Since his release from jail on April 14, with his bond reduced from $1,000,000 to $250,000, Anthony has remained quiet publicly. His family made an emotional plea at a press conference last week, urging people to respect their privacy as the legal proceedings unfold.
The situation highlights the challenges faced by individuals involved in high-profile cases and underscores the importance of safeguarding their well-being amidst public scrutiny and harassment.
