Lauren Sanchez’s recent wedding to Jeff Bezos has been a topic of much discussion, with friends and family showering her with support. However, one famous face, Katie Couric, has taken a different stance by throwing shade at Lauren’s high-end wedding dress.
Katie Couric made her feelings known on Lauren’s Vogue cover when she left a comment on a post shared by John F. Kennedy’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg. In her comment, Katie wrote, “Welcome to the eighties—when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently tacky is back.”
This comment was seen as a brutal takedown, especially considering how excited Lauren was about her dress in her profile. No bride wants to be called tacky in their wedding gown, and Katie’s words were particularly cutting.
The dress in question is a Dolce & Gabbana gown featuring high-necked, hand-appliquéd Italian lace. It was the first evening dress that Lauren had ever worn that covered her cleavage, and she described it as “so elegant, it’s timeless.”
The wedding took place on San Grigorio Maggiore, an island in Venice, in front of family, friends, and some of the world’s biggest stars. Celebrities like Sydney Sweeney, Orlando Bloom, Oprah, Tom Brady, Gayle King, Usher, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner were in attendance, although the event also attracted numerous protesters.
Katie’s comments make it clear that she is not joining the chorus of support for Lauren and Jeff. It remains to be seen if she will receive an invite to any future vow renewals. We have reached out to representatives for both Lauren and Katie for comment, but have not received a response at this time.
