Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced the six members of the crew for its upcoming spaceflight in the spring, and it includes some notable personalities.
Led by journalist Lauren Sánchez, who is also Bezos’ fiancée, the crew features pop star Katy Perry, “CBS Mornings” host Gayle King, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
This mission will mark the 11th human flight for Blue Origin’s New Shepard program. Sánchez expressed her excitement about leading a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth and inspire future generations.
In a post on her Instagram account, Sánchez shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming spaceflight, reflecting on her childhood dreams of becoming a pilot and how this opportunity is even more significant.
During the announcement on “CBS Mornings,” King shared her mixed feelings of being both terrified and excited, comparing it to the nerves of delivering a baby.
Blue Origin has already flown 52 people over the Kármán line, which marks the beginning of outer space, including Bezos himself.
This upcoming spaceflight will make history as the first all-female crew to fly to space since former Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963.
