Keanu Reeves has brushed off the recent buzz surrounding rumors that he and his girlfriend Alexandra Grant might have secretly married.
“Well, that wasn’t the first time,” said the 61-year-old actor during a conversation with E! News at the premiere of his new film, Good Fortune, held in New York City on Monday, October 13.
“We’ve been in a relationship for a while now,” Reeves remarked.
He continued, “Marriage is a lovely idea. Many sent us kind notes, but Alexandra did a splendid job clarifying, saying, ‘Thank you, but here’s the truth.’”
Indeed, representatives for both Reeves and Grant, 52, have denied the marriage rumors that appeared in September.
“That isn’t the case,” asserted a spokesperson for Reeves to E! News on September 22. “They are not wed.”
Following this, Grant addressed the speculation by sharing a delightful Instagram picture of the couple sharing a kiss.
“This is a genuine picture, not an engagement shot or an AI wedding announcement… just a kiss! (Maybe just before or after it, considering our slightly goofy expressions!) We were at Roden Crater, where Keanu and Gard just wrapped up an interview with James Turrell for Visionaries,” the visual artist wrote in her post.
She added, “I’m sharing it to express gratitude for the well-wishes regarding our supposed wedding. However, we aren’t married. It seems like good news is in short supply, but this is still misleading information, so watch out! Here’s a little piece of genuine joy!”
While there’s no imminent wedding in sight, Reeves and Grant did attend the premiere of Good Fortune together that night, where they were seen holding hands and sharing affectionate moments on the red carpet at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater.
Dressed in a sharp brown suit, Reeves looked quite dapper, while Grant dazzled in a striking sapphire sleeveless dress featuring silver embellishments around the neck.
The duo’s recent appearance comes just two weeks after they seemingly expressed their affection for one another on the red carpet at the Hudson Theatre in New York City, marking the opening of Reeves’ new play, Waiting for Godot. They were seen holding hands and posing for pictures during that event.
Reeves and Grant first crossed paths in 2009 and went public with their relationship in 2019 when Grant accompanied Reeves to the LACMA Art + Film Gala in November.
While they typically keep their romance under wraps, Grant recently honored Reeves with a heartfelt Instagram tribute for his 61st birthday in September.
“Thanks to everyone for sending kind birthday wishes to Keanu yesterday… he was celebrated well!” she expressed. “As many of you may know, Keanu does not have any social media accounts and misses out on posts or memes unless someone shows him.”
“And to Keanu – who looked at this post as a draft! – I’m incredibly thankful for your love and partnership. Now, back to painting! xo,” she concluded.
