Kenan Thompson, the popular ‘SNL’ star, is currently facing a legal battle with his landlord over a breach of lease agreement. The landlord claims that Kenan owes over $34,000 for breaking the terms of his 12-month lease on a 3-bedroom rental property in Los Angeles.
According to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, the written lease agreement was entered into in September, with the lease officially starting on October 1. Kenan had agreed to pay $10,250 in rent for a year, with the option to continue on a month-to-month basis after the initial term.
However, the landlord alleges that Kenan breached the lease by failing to pay $17,425 in rent for the months of November and December. Additionally, they had difficulty finding a replacement tenant and had to rent the property at a reduced rate. As a result, Kenan is being held responsible for the $15,750 difference in rent over the course of the 12-month lease.
In addition to the unpaid rent, the landlord is seeking an $871 late fee, a $9,594 broker fee, and $1,000 in legal fees as stipulated in the lease agreement. After deducting the $10,250 security deposit paid by Kenan, the total amount owed comes to $34,390.
Kenan’s camp has not yet responded to the allegations. It remains to be seen how this legal dispute will unfold and whether a resolution can be reached amicably between the parties involved.
