Nigo Collaborates with Graffiti Legend Futura for Kenzo Fall/Winter 2025 Collection
This season has been marked by an abundance of collaborations, and today was no exception. Nigo, known for his mastery in the art of collaboration, presented a show at Kenzo that featured the iconic work of New York graffiti legend Futura. The show was a culmination of Nigo’s recent collaborations, including a co-design with Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton.
Prior to the show, Nigo reminisced about his first meeting with Futura in 1996 in Tokyo. “I was a big fan of Futura,” Nigo recalled. “The first time I met him, he was wearing one of my designs. We started communicating back then and maintained a friendship over the years.”
On the garments, Futura’s signature atom logo was creatively integrated with Kenzo’s floral motif on blousons, bombers, and wide-leg pants. The collaboration also featured spray-painted effects on kimono collar suiting, adding a unique touch to the collection. Accessories such as shopping bags, bouquet wraps, and beer bottle baggies showcased Futura’s calligraphy alongside Kenzo’s identity.
Nigo’s collaboration with Futura and other artists evoked a sense of nostalgia, with knitwear decorations inspired by old school pachinko parlor machines. The footwear collection featured thick gum sole loafers and Mary Jane leather shoes, drawing inspiration from Nigo’s past experiences, including a pair of coveted Patrick Cox shoes he had long desired.
Roses, a recurring motif in the collection, were a nod to a story Nigo had heard about Sean Lennon meeting Paul McCartney for the first time. McCartney was wearing a rose-design T-shirt, inspiring Nigo to incorporate roses into his collection as a homage to that moment.
The spirit of cultural exchange and constant evolution was evident throughout Nigo’s collaboration with Futura, adding a fresh and dynamic element to the Kenzo Fall/Winter 2025 collection.
