Melie Kerr is on the brink of becoming New Zealand’s most successful ODI bowler, needing just a few more wickets to achieve this milestone.

The White Ferns captain showcased her exceptional bowling skills by taking a record-breaking seven wickets for 34 runs in the second one-day international against Zimbabwe in Dunedin. Kerr’s leg spin bowling proved to be too much for the Zimbabwean batting lineup, as she bowled out several opponents and set up stumping opportunities for her team.

In addition to her impressive bowling performance, Kerr also contributed with the bat, scoring 45 runs from 40 balls. Her all-round performance played a crucial role in New Zealand’s dominating victory, with the home team chasing down the target of 102 runs in just the 17th over.

Kerr’s seven-wicket haul in this match made her the first New Zealand woman to achieve this feat in an ODI international. With a career tally of 117 wickets, she surpassed Sophie Devine to become the second leading wicket-taker for New Zealand, trailing behind only Lea Tahuhu who recently announced her retirement from ODI cricket.

While Molly Penfold also impressed with three wickets, it was Kerr who stole the show with her exceptional performance. Zimbabwe struggled to put up a competitive score, with Modester Mupachikwa top-scoring with 32 runs.

The match took a somber turn when Zimbabwe’s opening batter Kelis Ndhlovu was hit in the head by a bouncer and had to be taken to the hospital for medical attention. Despite this unfortunate incident, the White Ferns wasted no time in chasing down the target, with Kerr, Gaze, and Green leading the charge to secure the victory.

Overall, Kerr’s outstanding performance in this match solidified her status as one of the top ODI bowlers in New Zealand’s cricket history. Her talent and skill on the field continue to shine, making her a vital asset to the White Ferns team.
