Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are expressing contrasting views on his forthcoming memoir.
Following Spears’ assertion that Federline’s new book, You Thought You Knew, is merely a financial endeavor, Federline, 47, disagreed during a recent exclusive interview with Us Weekly on Wednesday, October 15.
“This isn’t about the money,” he stated firmly. “If she has the ability to share her story, why shouldn’t I be able to share mine?”
On Tuesday, October 14, Spears released a heated statement after excerpts from Federline’s tell-all began circulating in the media, with the book set to be released next week.
According to a representative for Spears, “Kevin and others are benefiting from her story once more, and it is unfortunate that this comes after the end of child support payments.” They added, “Her primary focus remains her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their welfare amidst this sensationalism. She articulated her experiences in her memoir.”
Earlier this year, Spears published her own book, The Woman in Me, where she reflected on her musical journey, her notable relationships with Justin Timberlake and Federline, alongside her extensive conservatorship that lasted 13 years.
In contrast, Federline now reveals his perspective in You Thought You Knew, detailing his rise to fame following his marriage to Spears in 2004. He recounts their rapid romance, which ended in divorce in 2007, and alleges that the pop icon contacted Timberlake, 44, the night before their wedding and mixed wine with prescription medication while pregnant, among other shocking claims.

When questioned about his reaction to Spears’ bestselling memoir, Federline conveyed, “I wouldn’t say it upset me. Everyone is entitled to their viewpoint. Her narrative is what it is, and I have my own, which I also feel entitled to share.”
Federline admitted he “couldn’t even recall the last words exchanged” with Spears, though he highlighted his desire for her well-being.
<p“All I truly want is for her to foster a positive relationship with her children,” he remarked. “I want her to experience happiness, health, and all that comes with it. I wish her nothing but the best.”
However, he expresses concern in You Thought You Knew about Spears’ “survival” following a 2021 court decision that lifted her conservatorship, restoring her autonomy over personal, financial, and medical matters that her father, Jamie Spears, had overseen since 2008.
Federline shared, “The reality is, the situation with Britney seems to be heading toward something irreversible. It’s hard to maintain the façade that everything’s fine. From my view, time is running out, and we may be approaching a pivotal moment. If transformations don’t occur, something unfortunate may unfold, leaving our sons to deal with the aftermath.”
Despite their distance, Federline mentioned he would respond if Spears reached out for assistance.
<p“All you have to do is ask because I genuinely wish the best for everyone involved,” he told Us. “It’s been challenging, and while this truth I’m expressing in my book is difficult, I ultimately desire positive outcomes for all.”
You Thought You Knew is set for release on Tuesday, October 21, presented by Listenin, an audio-focused publishing platform.
