Step into the thrilling universe of “Kill Jackie.”
Variety is excited to unveil an exclusive first look at the forthcoming thriller series (see above), featuring Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role of Jackie Price. She portrays an international drug smuggler turned art dealer seeking revenge. Recently finishing its production, the series is brought to life by Prime Video, Fremantle, and Steel Springs Pictures and is slated for release next year.
“Kill Jackie” adapts the renowned novel “The Price You Pay” by bestselling author Nick Harkaway, who writes under the name Aidan Truhen. The series chronicles Jackie Price’s life: one of wealth and luxury for the past two decades—jet-setting globally, selling exquisite art with clever tax loopholes, and, most importantly, concealing her identity after fleeing a perilous past as a drug trafficker. The plot thickens when Jackie learns that a group known as The Seven Demons, infamous hitmen, have been sent to eliminate her. Convinced that someone from her past is orchestrating the hit, Jackie reverts to her old survival instincts and devises a reckless plan to eliminate The Demons one by one. However, she quickly discovers that her personal demons pose an even greater threat than the killers pursuing her, as her hidden past leads her back home with unforeseen repercussions.
Joining Zeta-Jones in the ensemble cast of “Kill Jackie” are Daniel Ings, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Óscar Jaenada, Hattie Hook, Darci Shaw, Raff Law, Enzo Cilenti, Christine Adams, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Set Sjöstrand, Tadashi Ito, Sebastian Armesto, Julian Barratt, Gavin Spokes, Jonathan Cake, Bamshad Abedi-Amin, and Bill Paterson.
This eight-episode series is a collaborative production between Fremantle and Steel Springs Pictures, co-created by Conor Keane, Tom Butterworth (“Gangs of London”), Peter Lawson (“John Wick”), and Damon Thomas (“Killing Eve”). Zeta-Jones will serve as an executive producer alongside Lawson and Jose Augustin Valdes for Steel Springs Pictures, with Butterworth, Thomas, Dante Di Loreto, and Jeffrey Levine contributing. Thomas takes the lead as director, while Butterworth serves as writer and showrunner, with Keane as co-writer and associate producer. Harkaway acts as an executive consultant and José Luis Escolar’s Deabru Kalea Filmeak oversees production in Bizkaia.
“Kill Jackie” is set to premiere on Prime Video in the U.K. and Ireland, the Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Canada. Sales outside the U.S. will be managed by Fremantle, while Steel Springs Pictures will handle the U.S. distribution.
The rights to the book were negotiated by the Curtis Brown Media Rights Team on behalf of Patrick Walsh at PEW Literary, while Zeta-Jones is represented by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham LLP. Butterworth’s representation comes through Curtis Brown (Nick Marston and Katie Battcock).
